How to Prepare to Participate in a Global On-line Laksharchana

First of all congratulate yourself on having decided to prepare such a blessed and sacred event.   Also remember that Baba has said that only certain people are lucky enough to attend a Laksharchana.  So imagine how lucky you are to be organising such an event.   Of course organising any event is never very easy and in order to help you in the process we have put a list of things you need to prepare and think about.

How to get started:

Please make sure that you have:

A minimum of 3 participants;

An Internet Connection;

A laptop, PC or Smart TV;

For more than 3 participants a big TV or other screen to connect your laptop or PC  to;

Go to http://www.laksharchana.com/web/en/booking/booking-online-laksharchana and fill in the form to register.

What you need to buy:

Plastic plates with two sections (dessert size flat plates).   In some countries these plates are difficult to find.  So some alternatives have been:

Buy a normal plate and stick a cardboard strip (normally with cello tape) in the middle to get two sections.  Just make sure that the strip sticks well as otherwise the rice moves from one section to the other.

Buy a plate with tree sections.  This gives you one section too many but also works.

Buy one flat dessert plate and a small dessert bowl.  Put the bowl on top of the flat plate and this gives you two sections.   This is not the best option as the bowl keeps moving.  However, it does also work but less efficiently.

White rice.  You need 2 tablespoons per person.

Buy or make-up small packs of vibhuti.   You can make these up using paper which you can cut fold yourself.  You can also use very small plastic bags that seal (see photo below). Just add one or two teaspoons of Vibhuti to your folded paper or small plastic bag. This makes a lovely Seva activity for a group.  The easy way though is to buy these little packs and in the UK you can get them from the Sai Baba Book Store.

Small photos of Sai Baba which will easily fit in one section of the plate.   You can also buy these in the UK at the Sai Baba Book Shop.

Small Plastic bag with a seal (approx. 10cm x 15cm).  The photo, rice and the small vibhuti pack need to fit in this bag.

Food to feed everybody after the event.  This can be a very simple meal but you need to plan for it also.  You can either cook the food yourself and this can also make a lovely Seva project. Some cities even ask people to bring in a dish and that way everybody participates.

Preparing the Bhajans:

You need to plan for 5 Bhajans (chosen by you)  at the start before the Laksharchana starts. Please sing these Bhajans before linking up to the online event.

The Bhajans between the mantras will be done directly from London On-line. The lyrics of these Bhajans will appear directly on the screen. For a list of the Bhajans and the full programme click here: http://www.laksharchana.com/web/en/laksharchana/programme

If you have any questions about the above or any aspect of preparing your event, please send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will assist you in any way we can.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
